SCHOOL EVENTS IN PROGRESS. WEATHER CAUSES POSTPONEMENT The Hawera High School girls’ sports were commenced yesterday, but owing to steady rain in the afternoon those events still undecided were postponed until today, when if the weather permits, the sports will be concluded. The officials were doubtful early in the day but bright sunshine before inidday decided them to carry on and.the programme was being expeditiously dispatched when rain and a blustering wind caused it to be abandoned about S/SO p.m. Once again the organisation was a feature of the sports. 1 The senior championship is being contested by two girls, V. Allan and R. George. I With three of the four events decided V. Allan has nine points and R. George 6. ’|[n the junior championship P. Murray is leading with six points, M. Collins has three and M. A programme of open-air Sunday afternoon recitals is to be included in the Patea Municipal Band’s summer ' schedule. The recent recital in the domain reached a very high standard, and ■ music lovers are eagerly anticipating ■ a further performance. ■ Quick-step practice under Mr. R. Had- ■ dow has been introduced into the band’s ■ training, which will further improve this zealous group of talented players.
