TRIP TO FANTHAM’S PEAK. » _ For the coming week-end the Mount Egmont Alpine Club has arranged a climb to the hut on Fantham’s Peak. Given good weather the snow at this time of the year is in good condition for safe and easy climbing and, while some will be satisfied to spend the day. skiing in the vicinity of the hut, a party will complete the ascent of the mountain if the conditions are suitable. Last week-end two parties of club members reached the hut and again had to dig a way in as the building was still buried under the snow. ' With the present thaw this snow is being consolidated into ice and in order to prevent possible damage to the hut an endeavour will be made during the next trip to reduce the weight on the roof. For this purpose shovels will be taken by the party. Mr. Jim Palmer will be the leader for the day and a start will be made from Dawson Falls at 9 a.m. Besides the usual warm clothing and nailed boots, goggles and zinc ointment will be required.
