BRIGHT BALL AT OAONUI

IMPROVEMENTS TO HALL KITCHEN. The Oaonui hall presented a gay appearance on Wednesday when the ball to celebrate the opening of the new kitchen was held. The ceiling of the hall was festooned with blue and white streamers. The walls and stage were decorated with nikau palms and arum lilies and many coloured globes surrounded the ballroom. The masters of ceremony, (Messrs. Colin Bishop and W. Rae) kept the dancers going on a perfect floor to the music supplied by Henderson’s dance band. Extras were played 'by Miss Jean MeCandlish, Mrs, Purvis and “Ned Kelly’s Band.” 4 In the supper room were daintily decorated tables. Fevre, black satin. The Grand March was led by Mr. and Mrs. J. Young. The receipts were about £49. Mr. H. Ibbitson was secretary. The improved kitchen was used for tho first time. In place of the old .chimney and fireplace was an electric tea urn holding 14 gallons. There were two hot points (3009 watts and 600 watts), each point with pilot lights. The urn was brought to boiling point in 1% hours a,nd the supervising committee said it •was a gratifying success. The kitchen has been extended six feet and fitted with a buffet furnished with shelves to accommodate crockery. The entrance has been made a double doorwav. The- cost of the improvements was £5O.
