INDEPENDENTS IN POLTICS
(To the Editor.) salaried organiser of the Reform Party is not pleased at my rebuttal of his low estimation of the value of independents in Parliament, and he comes again with a reiteration of his previously -expressed opinions.. This gentleman, who is a mere, visitor to the province, has, in condemning independents as being “impotent and ridiculous in Parliament,” shown a ; measure of contempt not only for independents but also for the voters who sent the Independents to Parliament. (Further, I would ask this paid pro f es' sional party organising politician if he includes among the ‘‘impotent and ridiculous Independents” the very much respected and able Speaker of the New Zealand Parliament, Sir Charles Statham, who for many years has represented Dunedin Central as an Independent member. Mr Manders cheap sneer at my estimation of my own' standing in Parliament I can afford to ignore, together with quite a lot of other things. I am,-etc., WILKINSON.
