THE JOHNSONVILLE SALE. WETHERS AND EWES EASIER. At Johnsonville on Wednesday cattle sold on a par with late rates, but wethers and ewes showed a decline of Is 6d to 2s per head. Cattle: A medium yarding of good quality bullocks was offered. Competition throughout the sale was keen at prices on a par with last week’s rates. No female stock came forward. Vealers were in small supply and met with a keen sale. Sheep: The yarding comprised mostly shorn wethers and ewes, with a few pens of woolly sheep. Wethers showed a decline of 2s per head as compared with last week’s rates, while ewes were easier to the extent of Is 6d to 2s. Hoggets met with a ready sale at late rates, while spring lambs met with good competition. STOCK SALE AT BURNSIDE* SHEEP AND PIGS DEARER. Dunedin, November 5. Most classes of fat stock were sold at firm rates at the Burnside sale to-day. There was a good demand for fat cattle, sheep and pigs, and while the demand was also keen for lambs, the latter were sold at a slight reduction as compared with last week’s rates. Fat Cattle.—The entry comprised 222 'head of fair prime bullocks, a few heavy animals, and a sprinkling of good cows and heifers. Opening prices were equal to late rates, and the sale was carried through under good bidding. Heavy bullocks sold to £23 ss; medium, £120; light, £l7 ss; heavy cows, £l3 10s; medium, £l2; light, £10; heavy heifers, £l2 15s; medium, £11; light, £lO. All classes were included in the entry of 1009 sheep. The sale opened with a keen demand and a rise of Is a head. Prices advanced another shilling as the sale proceeded, and although values were erratic at times, the bulk of the entry changed hands at an advance of 2s a head as compared with the values at the previous sale* Heavy wethers sold to 40s 3d, heavy ewes 3'3s 3d, shorn wethers 33s 6d, shorn ewes 26s 9d. The yarding of hoggets comprised average to prime wethers and ewes, a number of unfinished sorts, and about 100 extra good wethers. The best of the class sold at up to 235. The lamb entry comprised 116 head, of fair to prime quality, the yarding included a choice consignment from the north. Extra heavy lambs sold t> 375, prime heavy 30s, prime 28s, average' weights 265, light 21s 6d. Prices obtained for all prinie lambs were equivanent to Nd a lb. About ISO store cattle were offered, the entry including 50 fair to good three year old steers. The demand was not keen, and prices showed little change. Medium three-year-old steers sold to £B. 10s 6d, and good steers to £ll ss, while medium steers realised £3, and, medium heifers £2 to £2 13s. The pig entry consisted of 70 fats and 87 stores. There was a keen sale for the latter class, and prices showed an advance of 3s ja head. Porkers also met with a keen demand at an advance of jss a head, while baconers sold at firm rates.
