UNEMPLOYMENT BOARD
’ 'PROTEST AGAINST METHODS. The New Plymouth Acid, and 'Fer* tilisers Industrial Union of Workers has forwarded the following resolution to the Hon. S. G. Smith, Minister of Labour*. — . . \ This trade union protests emphatically against the autocratic step taken by the Minister of Labour in his definitely refusing to permit of the workers selecting their own representatives on the Unemployment Board; and the union is of tho opinion that such an attitude on the Minister’s part is a violation of the fundamental principles of the trade union movement, and is contrary to 1118 ■ , oft-repeated expressions of sympathy with the workers. The union cannot co* opei ate with the Government in the ad* ministration of any. scheme affecting the workers until organised labour has been cone. Jed the right to select, by 'ballot, their own representatives for any Gov* eminent position.
