A message from Nantes states that the New Zealand Shipping Company’s Papanui (8046 tons), bound from. Port I’irie to Avonmouth, collided with a lighter and two tugs at the St. Nazaire docks. The steamer was undamaged, but the tugs were damaged slightly and the lighter was seriously damaged. The Papanui was about to sail to-day when the owners of the tugs and lighter demanded 100,000 francs. This was not provided, though the agent offered a personal guarantee pending an arrangement with the underwriters; The vessel was therefore ; arrested.
