HOSPITAL BOARD CONTRACT
RATEPAYERS SEEK PREFERENCE WELLINGTON FIRM’S PROTEST. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Oct. 31. ■ The action of the Wellington Hospital Board in accepting a tender for the supply of mattresses from an Auckland firm has brought a protest from three Wellington houses that tendered for the contract. A letter w as read at the meeting of the Wellington Hospital Board from a loc?l tenderer protesting, as ratepayers and donors to the hospital, against the work woing outside the city that supports °the Wellington hospital, and claiming that it should have been given to a Wellington firm. “This Wellington firm claims that it is entitled to special consideration because it is a ratepayer,” said the chairman, Mr. F. Castle. “I think you will agree with me that is a wrong principle for a board which draws half its rev< enue from the Consolidated Fund.”
