The Navy Department has received a message from Captain Keppler, leader of the United States naval observatory expedition witnessing eclipse on Tuesday at Niau-Foou? reporting tha.t the dbservationsAvere' satisfactory. . “The New Zealand party was successful,” adds the message) “The natives were not alarmed but much interested. No clouds were ih the sky and a very good quality of direct photograph was entirely satisfactory. The .corona was midway in type and fairly bright. There were two fairly lohg streamers, jne 300 degrees and one 120 degrees. Hi addition there were six medium streamers of 41 degrees.”
