PRIME MINISTER’S HINTS
British Wireless. Rugby, Oct. 22. During his visit.to the motor show yesterday the Prime Minister, Mr. Ramgay MacDonald, discussed with leading manufacturers the handicap which industry suffered owing to the form of taxation levied on care. The present method is to base taxation on horse-p&wer and, although as the result small-power cars have been brought to a high pitch of perfection, it has been suggested that it discourages the manufacture of' big-engined cars’ such a£ are required by the dominions and foreign markets, where taxation is not based on horse-power. The Prime Minister’s replies to the leaders of British industry are taken in some quarters to mean that a modification or the abolition of tlie present form of taxation and the substitution of a petrol tax is being considered.
