SUCCESS: OF ANNUAL FUNCTION.

The spinsters and bachelors of Pun-o-arehu laijnched their fi/st annual ball fast night with success. The committee succeeded ■in making it an ; event to be remembered. The hall was . a picture. Vari-coloured streamers festooned the ceiling and the walls, while picturesque Chinese lanterns diffused light. Coloured flood light,? threw into relief the beautiful dresses. Latest dance music was . .played by Boulton’s band. Mirrors on the walls gave a pleasing kaleidoscopic effect. • Messrs. George Gray and J. Young were masters of ceremonies; Paper hats lent an air of carnival to the scene, and this was heightened by the Monte Carlo, spot, : streamer and confetti dances, Supper extras were played by Messrs. J., Hooker (Opunake),. and L. Davidson and Miss A. Duggan.

The. supper room was decorated in keeping with • the .mam scheme in ■ yellow, bine and red relieved with vases of. lilac,, roses and camellias. Mesdames E. H. Cyay, EL Ehrhorn, F. E. Grenlinton, J.
