MAN’S PECULIAR PASTIME
ACCOSTED WOMEN IN STREET. REMANDED PENDING INQUIRY. By Telegraph.—l’ress Association. Auckland, Oct. 18. The peculiar pastime of James Haughton, aged 43, who was charged in the Police Court with assault, was to accost women in the street, tell them a tale about his sister, who was trying to reduce her weight, then lift the women and ask them to, lift him. In one case he. stepped inside a woman's house. Her husband came home, and accused bolted.
Remarking that accused might be a sexual pervert, which suggestion was denied by counsel, the magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, remanded him pending inquiries.
