Last week we saw how the chums transferred to Policeman Pepper the note jh- which' their Bolshie neighbours had threatened to blow them up. Of course, Folicemap Pepper thought they meant to blow him up, and decided to arrest them straight away. He was soon in difficulties, however, for Bowwowski and Toucanovitch had not put their address on the notice. “How can I find out where they live?” he wondered, and sat down on a milestone to think about it.

. The first thing Foliceman Pepper did was to call upon the chums and ask them "if they knew-Bowwowski and Toucanovitch. You can guess Richard was only top _delighted.;to tell him all he knew about them. "They live next door,” he explained,, “and I’m sure they are Bolsheviks. But if you want to catch them you must go to the back door.” 1 "Right" said Pepper. “By this time to-morrow they will be safely in gaol.”

When Policeman Pepper had gone, Gwen asked: “Why did you say he must go tq thp back door, Richard?” “Because!” replied Richard, “I want the Bolshies to think we are calling. They will probably throw something then,, and if they'hit the policeman they will be in a fine mess!” "What a brilliant idea,” chuckled Polly. Richard then sat down and wrote a note to Bowwowski and Toucanovitch, saying he would be Calling, and would knock at the back door.

When Bowwowski and Toucanovitch received the note from Richard they were very much surprised. After their treatment of the chums, they thought they would never call' again. “I wonder what their- little game is?”puzzled Bowwowski. “Perhaps they think we will open the door, and then they will shy something t us,” suggested Toucanovitch. ■' • ’ “Just as likely,” Bowwowski growled, ‘'We’ll be ready for them?’ J

Policeman Pepper knocked at the hack door of Bowwowski's and Toucanovitch’s residence. “I must be on my guard,” he thought. “If they are dangerous Bolsheviks there may he bombs about. But I don’t think they will dare to try any tricks with the Law.” Little did Pepper dream of the plot that had been hatched I But Richard had said, must make them throw something at the police to get them really into trouble.”

Bowwowski and Toucanovitch had prepared very thoroughly for Richard’s call. At the top of the wall they had a bucket of water, and, when they heard the knock they simply tipped it over. It wasn’t until they gazed over the wall that they saw what they had done. Then, of course, they realised the trap Richard had set for them. Weren’t they angry! Poor Pepper was very startled, arid very wet, and not at all sure what had happened.
