The Stratford branch of the Women’s Division held its monthly meeting at Mrs. A. D. Walker’s residence, iNgaere, on Tuesday. Although’ heavy showers of rain . fell it did not stop members from walking through the beautiful garden and grounds, which were a glorious sight with the cherry trees in bloom and the gay borders and many beautiful flowers. Messrs. Moss and Walker were in attendance to answer questions on horticulture. Afternoon tea was provided by the Ngaere ladies. Those present included Mesdaines Phillips (president), Nowell, A. D. Walker, H. C. Taylor, Tecofsky, W. Wickham, Shannon. W. H. Young, Pitt, Pederson, Hall, Brunton, Marchant, Steven, Schumacher, W. Vickers, Mills, Graham, Cameron, Anderson, Burton, Mcßae, Savage, K. Mrs'. C. Carroll. Denbigh Road, was hostess at an afternoon on Monday. Those present were Mesdamcs G. Smith, G. Anderson. Guthrie, V. Carroll, Symonds, D. Blick and Hall.

Mrs. Hall, Midhirst, was “at home” on Thursday afternoon. Among those present were Mesdames Burton, Smith, Guthrie, Richards,’ G. Anderson, V. Carroll, C. Carroll, Schumacher, Harkness, Misses Palmer and Corlett. Competitions were won by Mrs. Smith and Mrs. V. Carroll.

The Stratford Mountain Club, apart from being one of the oldest alpine clubs in. New Zealand, if not the oldest, appears to be a live body. At its first official tramp of the season last weekend members experienced all the thrills of alpine winter flports on the east elopes of Mt. Egmont, toboganning, glissading and ski-ing being enjoyed. The ' ladies who- successfully completed the arduous ten-mile course and who mastered the skis were Mesdames A. White and Lowry, Misses E. McDonald, K. Kempthorne, M.. Whiteside and L. Griffin. A welcome cup of tea in the snow followed. The party then returned to the base line by the new road. A roaring fire at the Stratford house greeted the trampers, members agreeing that the. outing was one of the best yet held. The next trip will be to the signpost at North Egmont on November 2.
