Rec. 11.30 p.m. Allahabad, Oct. 14. Wing-Commander Kingsford Smith had an uneventful flight from England. He overhauled his engine this afternoon and is leaving for Rangoon to-morrow morning. He intends stopping at Singapore, Sourabaya, Timor and Darwin, thus completing the trip in eleven days. Captain Matthews to-day left Weltevreden for Sourabaya. THEJBTORY OF OSCAR GARDEN AMBITION TO MAKE FLIGHT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Oscar Garden, the aviator reported as having left the Croydon aerodrome' for Australia, formerly lived at Riccarton but for the past year has been in Sydney. He had a cycle shop at Riccarton, then a garage at Southbridge. A year ago he went to Sydney, where he had a garage at Double Ba J. He came to Christchurch at the beginning of this year; Before going to England in February he announced his intention of learning to fly in England, and his last letter to relatives told of his experiences in learning to fly at the Norwich Aero Club. His letter, made no mention of a projected flight but before leaving for England fie had said he was going to be the first man to fly from England to New Zealand, A cable from London said that a young man stepped from a light plane at Croydon and announced that he was going to fly to: Australia. He gave his name as Oscar Garden, of .Christchurch, New Zealand, stepped, into the plane and flew off.
