SOLDIERS’ REHABILITATION

COMMISSION PLAN ADOPTED. NEW LEGISLATION INTRODUCED (By Wire—Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night., A Bill designed to give effect to one of the principal recommendations of the Ex-Soldiers Rehabilitation Commission, the setting up of an organisation to administer the re-establishment of disabled soldiers in civil employment or occupation, was introduced in the House of Representatives to-night by GovernorGeneral’s message. The Minister iii charge of war pensions is empowered to that end to appoint local advisory committees in specified districts or localities to make arrangements with employers for the employment of disabled soldiers, to establish and carry oh schemes for the vocational training of ex-service men, and to make payments to disabled ex-soldiers to supplement their earnings in any employment. . The Minister may delegate his powers to the Commissioner of Pensions. ...

Provision is made for the appointment as members of the Public Service of the employment and vocational officers whq may be necessary to give effect to the objects of the Act. In appointing advisory committees the Minister will as far as, practicable select on each committee a representative- or representatives of societies or associations controlling war funds, of employers’ and workers’ organisations, branches of the Returned'Soldiers’ Association aud branches of the New Zealand branch of the Red Cross Society. The committees will act in a consultative capacity and may have administrative powers delegated to them by the Minister. Finally the Bill provides for the making of regulations for the effectual carrying out of its objects.
