A strong protest against the action of the Acting-Prime Minister, the Hon. E. A. Ransom, in giving facilities to the Meat Export Control Amendment Bill, a private member’s measure, was voiced by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. J. G. Coatee) in'the House to-night. Mr.' Ransom had moved the -postponement of the orders of the. day in order to allow; of, Mr. W. D. Lysnar’s Bill being given further consideration in committee. .
Mr. Coates pointed but that there was other more important business with which the House could concern itself. In, addition.:to a number of important Bills which lutd yet to receive the consideration of Parliament there were a number, of important reports to be discussed. Other private members also had Bills they desired to be considered.. . _ -- '-I
Mr. F. Langatone: A number of them liave Bills which don’t appear here too! (Laughter.) '■ Mr. Coates said that if other private members’ Bills, were going to receive similar consideration to the Bill sponsored by Mr. Lysnar, Parliament would be sitting for a' long time. “I think the country expects us to get on with more important business,” said Mr. 'Coates. ‘' ■ ' '
Mr. Ransom said he had already given the assurance that a number of important reports would be discussed in addition to the very definite promise that had’been given in respect of certain 'private members’ Bills, and he intended to honour that promise. Mr. Lysnar’s Bill was one of those he referred to. He did not intend to delay the House unduly but he thought the promise should be kept. /
