BUTTER AFTER BATHING.
A West ind shop this week' received an urgent order for seven bathing dresses from a family staying at a well-known seaside resort. They must, all be plain navy blue the order said. It seems the South Coast is periodically suffering from another epidemic of oily scum, which is drifted in from the sea whenever the south west wind has been blowing for a day or two/ and is making havoc of bathing dresses in the brighter colours, which look so attractive when fresh and new. A dress in white and. pale blue is not improved by a patch of black grease six inches square. The careful application of butter and petrol will together render a bathing dress fit to wear again, but it is almost im-/ possible to get the colour quite right. A dark blue dress does not reflect the disaster so conspicuously. -
