By Telegraph.—Press Association.
Wellington, Last Night. The gate receipts at the fourth Rugby Test match between Britain and New Zealand at Athletic Park on August 9 were officially slated to be £7007' Bs. 10s. at the meeting of the Wellington Rugby Union' to-night. The Wellington union’s share of the proceeds from all three matches played at Wellington is £3154. . Other unions were complaining, said the chairman, Mr. J. Prenderville, but from the statement up to date it looked as though the Wellington union would finish the year with something like a profit of £lOOO, with careful management. It was in a better position than manv of the other unions. The gate receipts at -Wellington on the days when Test matches were broadcast during the visit of the British team dropped approximately £lOO on each of the three occasions. This was mentioned by the treasurer when a letter from the New Zealand union was received dealing with the "subject of broadcasting. Complaints had been received from several Unions that broadcasting in the bigger centres detrimentally affected.the attendances at matches in the smaller centres, the letter said. It was intended to discuss the whole question at.the annual meeting of tho New Zealand union, Hut' in the meantime the management committee of th union would' be glad if the unions would advise as to last season’s experiences, together with any- suggestion they might care to make. > There was a' little discussion after Mr. Jackson had-supplied his information regarding the Test < match broadcasts, and the union decided to forward tile information to the New Zealand union. It had ho suggestions to make..
