COLONEL POTTER RETIRES

THE NORTHERN COMMAND, CAREER IN THE ARMY. It is announced in the Gazette that Colonel H. R. Potter, C.M..G., hag relinquished his position as officer in charge of the Northern Military Command and the temporary rank of brigadier, and has been transferred to the reserve of officers. Colonel Potter is one of the best known military officers in New Zealand, having'been closely associated with the organisation and administration of Trentham Camp, where he was camp commandant throughout practically the whole war period. Colonel 1 Potter saw active service in the South African war, and gained the rank of captain, He joined the New Zealand Permanent Forces and held the rank of assistant-ad-jutant-general at Auckland, and later at Chriistchurch. He. had a year's instruction with the Indian Army, and in 1912 was appointed to command No. 5 group, with headquarters at Wellington. Colonel Potter remained in command at Trentham Camp until 1919, when he was transferred to Auckland, acting as officer commanding the Northern District and then the Northern Command.
