THIRTY-SIXTH ANNUAL MEETING.

RECORD OF GOOD WORK,

Superintendent L. B. Davis presided over the thirty-sixth annual, meeting ot the Stratford. Volunteer Fite Brigade last night, when the report of the year s operations was reviewed and the ftnancial statement disclosed it sound positi(The report stated that the total of receipts for the year ending September 30 1930, was £B3 4s. 3d. (including £3l 5 3 ’ 7d carried forward ftoin lilst year), and the total expenditure whs £O5 95., leaving a credit balance of £l7 las 3d loss one itnpresertted cheque ot £2. This was Considered satisfactory under tlie circumstances. The total of musters fdt the year Was 37, made up as follows Aleetings 12, practices 12, Special meeting 1, calls to fires 1— The attendance had been exceptionally good, the average being 03. Three members gained full marks—L. B. Davis, B. Brocklebank aftd D. BlitehGf. Ihe total strength of the brigade was 20. Tlie dumber of alarms Was in excess of last year’s, numbering 12, but only two were of a very serious nature, both being a total loss. Owing to the fact that one was olit of thb borough and not within the jurisdiction of'the brigade nothing could be done, although all members turned out. The usual competition run between ' Eltharn ami Stratford for the shield was run at Eithaiti, the com petition being won by ElHmiii. Mcßae was appointed cufelodian pro ieiii after Hie resignation of Custodian G. Tubby, and has attended to bis duties splendidly. Everything is in first-class order, as is evidenced by the inspecting officer’s monthly report. Satisfaction at the fine attendance record of members ami the general conduct of the brigade was expressed by Superintendent Davis. The financial position was quite satisfactory. ihe buildings that had been totally destroyed by fire had been outside the borough, and he considered that,a number of°good saves had been effected. A good number of visitors and Well-wishers Of the brigade were present. The Mayor, Air. P. Thomson, presided, and the following toast list was honoured —The Ring; Borough Council, proposed by P. T. Aitken—the .Mayor and Councillors N. B. Fletcher, R. R. Tvrer and D. J. Malone. .United Fire Brigadees Association, 1 Mr. E. D. Evans—Supt. Davis; Stratford Volunteer Fite Brigade, Mr. R. R. Tyrer—Mr. E. Brocklebank; Life Members, Supt. Davis— Messrs. E. D. Evans, A. Boon, AV. Robson, . AV. Patton and T. Lawson; The Visitors, the Ladies and the Press. , During the evening items were given by the orchestra, songs by Messrs. P. T. Aitken, S. Robinson, R. Hook, J. HuddleStone and P, Feffiniell. Mr. S. Dunbar recited. Accompaniments were played by Mr. M. Feek. Trophies won by members of the brigade during the year were presented by the Mayor.
