NEW ASPIRANT APPEARS f‘GARDEN” OF NEW ZEALAND MATTHEWS IN BATAVIA TWO AVIATORS WITHDRAW By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Rec, p.m. London, Oct. 14. From a light aeroplane which landed at Croydon yesterday stepped a young man who announced his intention of starting a flight to Australia. After stating 0 his name was Oscar Garden and that his home was Christchurch, Nelv Zealand, he climbed into the aeroplane and flew off. The aerodrome officials have no idea whence he came.
Captain Matthews left Singapore today for Batavia and landed at Weltcvreden. ■ Wing-Commander Kingsford Smith left Karachi for Allahabad early this morning.
Mr. C. W. Hill landed at Rangoon, having decided that the journey to Bangkok could not be accomplished before dark. He announced that it was his intention to continue his journey at-midnight, when the full moon will favour the’airman. 'Mr. Hill left Lympne on October 5, his intention being to visit his parents in Queensland during his leave from service. . Chabot and- Pickthorne have arrived at Karachi, but in consequence of delays are abandoning the flight and returning by steamer from Karachi.
