The Bombay Government has taken Swift action under the new ordinance permitting the confiscation of unlawful organisations’ property and has declared 86 Congress and allied associations in the Presidency unlawful, and also announced that 28 Congress offices in various districts would be taken possession of immediately. Over 200 police made a lightning raid on the Congress headquarters at Surat and Ba, Doli, and hauled down the CongresiT’flag, which had floated for months over the buildings, and hoisted the Union Jack in its place. Thirty arrests were made. The police also made a simultaneous raid on agitators’ headquarters in L he Ville Park suburb of Bombay. This resulted in 57 arrests, including three women. All were later sentenced to varying terms of imprisonment. The United Provinces Government has 'declared the Congress organisations in the Benares district illegal.
