CRICKET CLUB TO BE FORMED. CLOSE OF THE GOLF SEASON. It is 30 years since the Opunake Cricket Club ceased to be an active body. In those days Opunake had one or two players in the Taranaki representative team (which was confined to the Ilawera Club). On Wednesday evening a meeting was held to consider the forth is 30 since the Opunake Cricket mation of a club in Opunake. Mr. J. V. S. Stephenson. presided and about a dozen cricketers were present. The meeting decided to form a club and a committee consisting of Messrs. Stephenson, Fouhy and Morcroft was set up to make inquiries and report to the next meeting. ;
The Opunake Golf Club finished the season on Wednesday, with driving and putting competitions and presentation of trophies. The president of the Ladies’ Club (Mrs. R. J. Morriu) said that the club had a most successful season. Mr. F. Julian (president of the men’s club) thanked members for the interest taken in the club’s welfare during the season. He then called on Mrs. J. R. Burton to hand the trophies to the following winners:—Ladies’ senior championship cup. Mrs. R. J. Morris; junior championship cup, Miss R. Julian; Hag competition, Mrs. R. J. Morris; driving open (Mrs. Burton’s trophy), Miss V. Hotter.
