GENERAL AND PERSONAL NEWS. The humid conditions of the past few days have resulted in a much needed freshening of pastures. Six weeks ago, stock were' leaving the hay and ensilage, and many farmers expected a large surplus of fodder, but stacks have since been gradually disappearing. The forming of a footpath from the hall corner to the school will be greatly appreciated by parents. With this convenience and a few safety’club lessons for the children, much of the danger at this corner wTll be removed. ' On Saturday evening a large. social gathering was held at the residence of
Mr. F. A. Ashley, Kaihihi Road. On , Tuesday Mr. A. D. Gray’s new residence, on'Leith Road received a “house warming” over 50 being present. Mr. and- Mrs. H. Beale entertained about 60 guests at the hall on Monday evs-i-i-g, the occasion being" the'birthday of their niece, Miss Alary Cole. The esteem in’.'which' Mrs. J. Pearce is held by the residents of the district was shown by the large number of ladies who gathered at. the residence of Mrs. Ned Corbett on Wednesday afternoon, to bid Airs. Pearce farewell on the eve of her departure to New* Plymouth. Miss 'AI. Walton spoke of the sincere regret occasioned by the departure of their guest and trusted she would have many happy days in her new home. Miss B. Andrews presented Mrs. Pearce with a set of toilet requisites as a token of their regard. A packed house greeted the Rev. J. A.
■Seamer’s concert , party at its performance on Wednesday, night. The audience was most appreciative, the concerted items being especially fine. Mrs. J. S. Fox is visiting Wanganui. Miss Petersen., who has been appointed infant mistress at the Okato chool,, commenced duty, last week.
