OPUNAKE SCHOOL

MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Opunako school committee was held last night. Present: Messrs. G. H, Hutton (chairman), A. K. McNae, T.. P. Hughson, junr., 8. Bier, A. Hindi, A. Raynor (secretary) and W. H. Burgess (headmaster). The headmaster reported the roll and attendances were as follow: Primary roll, 105; average attendance, 170; secondary'roll, 42; average attendance, 35. Advice had been received that Miss Scarrow would be. away for another month. The school was indeed fortunate to be able to retain the services of Miss Johnstone as relieving teacher.' to hold a school concert on Wednesday, October 22. A letter from the Education Board stated thdt the application for £6 subsidy for the library had been forwarded to the department. A motion was passed sympathising with Miss Scarrow in her illness and wishing her a speedy recovery. Correspondence was received from the Prime Minister’s office and the Minister of Education acknowledging receipt of the committee’s resolution objecting to the Opaku reserve proposal made by the recess committee. The letters stated that the terms of the resolution had been noted and would be attended to.

Tho committee’s application for subsidy on the piano (£29 10s) was refunded. No subsidy was granted on such applications by the department, the advice stated.
