A sensational attempt was made to assassinate Mr. Lenox Simpson, a British journalist who took charge of the Tientsin Customs office, thereby ousting National nominees, following Marshall Yen Hsi Shan’s Northern coup d’etat. Mr. Simpson was dangerously wounded. The attempt to kill Mr. Simpson was made at his own home by three unknown Chinese. His assailants shot him ami escaped in a motor-car. The crime has created a stir in official circles.
