MOTORIST SERIOUSLY HURT
CAR FALLS FROM'ROADWAY;
A five-seater touring car driven by Mr. Coburn, a settler of Aria, fell 70 feet down a elay elope on Mount Messenger on Wednesday afternoon. Coburn, who' was the only occupant, was rescued suffering severe injuries and' taken to the New Plymouth Hospital. He had been pinned Wider the car for > over two hours. The .car left the road on the south side of the mountain and rolled, broadside. on, down the slope, coming to rest on its hood.' The corner where the accident happened was the scene of a fatality a few years ago. A settler living nearby discovered Mr. Coburn at about 6.30 in the evening. The car’s horn was sounding intermittently as the car slipped gradually further down the lower part of the slope. Mr. Coburn was immediately rescued and brought to the road, where a passing motorist picked him up and took him to hospital. • ; Mr. Coburn was returning home from a visit to New Plymouth. He was seen a few minutes before four o’clock,, when he' was approaching Mount Messenger. The upper work of the car and the mudguards were battered. Except for possible strain that would not be apparent it escaped very lightly. Men from a New Plymouth garage were occupied all yesterday afternoon in raising the car to the road and bringing it back, for repairs. ■ ,
