CHIMNEY COLLAPSES IN A STORM AT AUCKLAND.—A large chimney, a landmark for nearly 50 years at the Clyde Ironworks, Onehunga, was demolished when struck by lightning about 5 o’clock on Monday afternoon, and the falling bricks wrecked the adjoining buildings. Instead of fracturing the usual manner, the chimney was blown to pieces, and it is thought that inflam ma ble gases in the chimney, were ignited by the lightning.
