Good heavyweight bullocks sold at prices on a par with last week’s rates, but plainer sorts werq dull: of sale. Wethers which were of good quality met with a god demand at last week’s rates, but ewes showed a decline of Is. to Is. 6d. per head. Spring lambs also suffered a decline to the extent of 3s. per head, while hoggets were keenly sought after. PRICES AT TE AWAMUTU. Te Awamutu, October 1. The Te Awamutu Jersey Club’s annual sale of- pedigree bulls! was held today, and attracted a large attendance of dairymen and y breeders. Three auctioneering firms operated. Bidding was at times animated. Special interest centred in the judging of the entries before the sale. .Following were the. awards: —Yearlings: G. S. Clarke’s Beauvelande Denis 1; F. J. Ryburn’s The Oaks Fancy Box, 2; Hamilton Allen’s Baron Winsome of Woodcrest, 3. Two-year-old and over: A. H. Ten others made 20 guineas or over. z - HIDE, WOOL AND SHEEPSKIN SALE. . PRICES AT NEW* PLYMOUTH. The firm of L. A. Nolan and Co. reports holding its four-weekly sale of hides, wool and sheepskins in New Plymouth op Tuesday. A full catalogue was submitted to a full bench of buyers. Competition , was well maintained throughout the sale. Hides sold at from par to a farthing better than last month —the | appreciation being most noticeable iri medium and better class heavyweights. Sheepskins in sympathy with the wool .and pelt markets were easier all round. Only oddments of wool were offered, and found a market at rates considerably- lower dhan last month’s. Present indications suggest lower level of prices for the forthcoming wool season. Tallow was sold at slightly lower prices than those for last month. The only cheering feature of the sale was the evidence of a better general competition for hides. The eighth annual Manawatu Jersey hull and heifer show and sale was held to-day at the showgrounds at Palmerston North. A catalogue of 73 lots was submitted to a representative bench of b lycrs, 49 animals being disposed of at sat’sfaetory prices. Forty-one males avera-'nl a fraction over £3O and eight females a fraction over £2O. A number <;f lots was passed in, failing to reach the vendors’ reserves. The highest price was 61 guineas for the bull Crucible, sold on account of Mrs M. J. Price, Aorangi, the purchasers being Seifert and Larsen, Maugawhata. A yearling heifer, on account of Mrs. L W. There was poor competition for the supplementary wool sale held yesterday, with many passings. A total of 1400 bales was offered, and local buyers provided the bulk of the competition. British Wireless. Rugby, October 1. Oil the London Exchange to-day rubber touched a new low record at 3 5-Sd per lb. , BURNSIDE STOCK MARKET. FAT CATTLE MUCH FIRMER. Dunedin, October 1. Fat cattle solid at advanced rates at the Burnside sale to-day, the market being much firmer than for several weeks past.' In the fat sheep section prices for'heavy prime wethers -we- j unchanged. Medium-weight wethers were disposed of at cheaper rates in the early sales, but firmed to some degree later. Unfinished sheep met with a low 'sale and heavy ewes sold at a reduction of Is Gd to 2s a head. The first of the season’s spring’lambs were yarded. Only two lambs comprised tlic entry, which came from the Milton district, and these sold at 38s and 26s respectively, the prices being equivalent to about Is Gd a lb. There. was a fair demand for store cattle of good quality. There was little life in the pig section and a drop in values was recorded. The fat cattle entry totalled 164 head. Very few extra prime'animals were forward. One or two pens of extra good quality bullocks were offered, but the bulk of the entry was composed of ium heifers and cows. There was good competition and prices showed an ad-’ vance of £1 to £1 5s for all prime quality animals. Extra heavy bullocks sold from £22 10s to £24 10s; medium, £l9 . 10s; light, £l6; heavy heifers, £l4; medium, £l2 10s; light, £lO 15s; heavy cows, £l5 10s; medium, £l3 10s; light, £lO 10s. Extra hpavy ox beef brought about 50s per 1001 b.; prime light beef, 52s Gd; heifers, about 455; and cows, from 30s to 35s per 1001 b. A yarding of 2200 head of sheep was made up of several pens of extra prime heavy wethers, the balance being light wethers with a few pens of heavy ewes and a fair proportion of light and unfinished sheep. Extra prime wethers sold to 375; prime, 34s 9d; medium, 30s; extra prime ewes, 30s; prime, 2Ss 3d; medium, 245. Prices obtained for heavy wethers were equivalent to 4jfd, and for prime light wethers about per lb., while the values for heavy ewes were about 3£d a lb. An entry of 65 store cattle included 15 three and four-year-old bullocks, but the bulk of the yarding consisted of cows. One pen of forward bullocks sold to £l2 15s, and a. pen of three-year-old bullocks realised £9 17s 6d. The pig entry comprised 54 fats and 60 ■ stores. -Competition was not keen and fat pigs sold at a reduction of about 5s a head. Prices for prime baconers were equivalent to 9d a lb., and for prime porkers 9Jd a lb. ‘
