BLEAK WEATHER PREVAILS ROY SOLE’S SURPRISE WIN. ,G. TUFFERY WINS JUNIOR RACE. A bleak westerly wind bringing with it intermittent, blinding showers of cold rain and sleet faced riders in the Waitary Cycling and Athletic Club’s senior and junior road races from Waitara on. Saturday afternoon. The senior race, which was ridden in almost continuous rain, provided a surprise when Roy Sole crossed the line ahead of S. McCann and. a large bunch after a gruelling race to Inglewood and Lack, 26 miles. The junior event did not provide such a close finish as G. Tuffery went out after the limit boys from the start and was with a bunch of four at the turn. Once headed for home Tufferv clapped on the pace and forged ahead to win by 100 yards from Rogers, who was 50 yards ahead of Cavaney. Wiley from scratch caught lamer on the outward journey. Rain fell just 1 after the limit men started and it was hard work until Junction Road was reached. Bocock came off at the bend, just missing a sign-post, but -soon caught the scratch riders, who had made up half of their handicap at Inglewood. Roy Sole had caught Cayancy, Tuffery and Hicks but the limit men were still together in the lead. McCann, Y’ardley and Bocock picked up Roy Sole’s bunch two miles from home and half a mile farther the limit boys, riding strongly, were caught. A bunch of six,camo down the final stretch into Woitafa together, Roy Sole shooting out a length ahead of McCann to hold his advantage. Yardley, Oliver, Bocock and Cooney crossed, the line in a bunch. Cooney, a new rider, ffiade a good showing from limit.
