DANGER TO FOREST AREAS
RAVAGES OF DEEK AND GOATS.
Concern at the effect milling Operations and the ravages of goats are having on the watersheds in Sthte forests in .the Tftraruas was expressed at a meeting of the general committee of the Wairarapa Progress League on Friday. The Director ot Forestry, Mr. E. Phillip ; Turner, wrote replying to questions addressed to him by the league. He concurred with its yi&'vs that deer in the Tararuas do. not present the menace which they do in the Haurangi State Forest and the Marlborough district. “The removal of all restrictions should greatly assist in keeping deer in cheek in your district,” ho wrote, “and as far as it is concerned the restrictions’ will be removed after September 30, on which date the deer-stalking season closes.” The question of dealing with Wild goats is at present. receiving attention.
