DUTY PAID IN STAMPS

TRANSFER FROM POST OFFICE. A total of £185,000 was paid into the Consolidated Fund during 1929-30 by the Post Office in payment for the stamps estimated, to have been used for receipts, bills of exchange and miscellaneous purposes, according to a return laid on the table of the House of Representatives by the acting-Prime Minister, the Hon. E. A. Ransom, at the request of Mr. J. 8. Fletcher (Independent —Grey Lynn). The. same amount was paid into the fund for the same purpose for the previous vear. In a covering statement, the actingprime Minister said the allocation for the present financial year was undei re view. Before April 1, 1928, the Post Office account formed part of the Consolidated Fund, but since then it had been a separate account. It was not possible exactly to allocate the total stamp duty revenue among the various items included in the account, but the amount stated had been agreed upon by the Stamp Duties and Post and Telegraph Departments.
