THE GAME OF CRICKET.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —I have read the reports of meetings where proposals have been made tiiat six senior teams should be entered for the competition aaid am pleased to see that a Country team will be entering and also pleased, to see that the Old Boys’ Club propose to enter two teams, and consider they are justified in doing so. But for the good of the game it might be better if the club confined. itself to players who have a claim to being Old Boys, which would enable other clubs to field a team, that would make the games more interesting. A good keen game is what all players should look not mainly the winning of the competition. I doubt if the High School on their last year's performance, even if strengthened by the inclusion of some of the stall, could field two senior teams that would be able to make a good showing against some of the teams entered, and this would take a lot of the interest out of the games. I suggest that when again being discussed an alternative would be that a veterans’ team be entered. There are many men over 35 who, I believe, would take up the game again, and if some of the older players withdrew from the present teams and joined up, a good eleven could be put in the field. This would make a lot more interest in 'cricket in New Plymouth. One of the drawbacks the game is suffering from is that as soon as old players give up playing they disappear entirely from the cricket grounds and all support is Jost. If proposal was achieved it would give more young players a chance in senior cricket by taking the place of . the older men who withdrew to join the veterans’ club. —1 am, etc., A LOVER OF THE GAME.
