GIRL’S ORDEAL IN CREEKMOTORIST EFFECTS RESCUE. Opotiki, Sept. 24. \ fortunate escape from drowning was experienced bv A vice Pa 1 kinson, aged 9 years, when 'returning home from school. The girl, who rides an old horse, took the animal to a creek alongside Waioeka Road to let it drink. ' When the horse had finished it started to back 011 to the road, hut suddenly it fell’dead in the water. Ihe o-irl was pinned by one leg and was quite unable to free hcrseli. she had nreat difficulty in keeping her head above water and was practically unconscious when Mr. S. Fisher arrived m a motor-car and released the gnl tioni her precarious position. If the rescue had been much longer delaved the girl would undoubtedly have lost her life. When rescued she was suffering greatly from the cold.
