NEW PLYMOUTH SEWERAGE
PROGRESS OF TUNNELLING. The contractors, on the sewerage tunnels radiating from the loot of Eliot Street, New Plymouth, continue to make good progress. The 2ft. pipes leading from the eastern liquefaction chamber eastward towards the gates of the East End Reserve have been placed in position, but the actual liquefaction chambers, eastern and western, have not yet been concreted. The western chamber, 600 ft. long, has been finished about a week. . . Leading towards the intersection of Gover and Molesworth Streets the western tunnel has been driven for about. so feet from the end of the liquefaction chamber. A further shaft was sunk on Tuesday near the Gover Street intersection, and tunnelling is proceeding m both directions, back to meet the drive from the chamber, and westward towards the end of the present contract near Kawau Street. The uncompleted distance between the newt shaft and the western chamber is about 950 feet. The concreting of the eastern- and westcrji liquefaction chambers will be commenced in the course of . the next week or so. Tenders are being called for the construction of sewerage tunnels in the Fitzroy area. .
