Nominations for' the New Zealand Trotting Cup, which carries £4OOO prize money, the most given to any horse race in the Dominion, closed on Thursday, states the New Zealand Herald. Twenty-seven of the recognised best pacers have been nominated, and the (race will be decided in two divisions and final. The nominations are: — -riri, 4.20 3-5; Padlock, 4.21; Waitaki Girl, 4.22; Logan Park, 4.22 1-5; Jewel Pointer, 4.22 1-5; Dundas Boy, 4.22 3-5; Terence Dillon, 4.22 3-5; Roi L’Or, 4.23 4-5; Linkman, 4.24; Harold Thorpe, 4.24 1-5; Quality, 4.24 1-5; Talaro, 4.24 2-5; Author Jinks, 4.22 1-5; Jean McElwyh, 4.24 2-5; Travis Axworthy, 4.24 4-5; Native Prince, 4.24 4-5; Kingcraft, 4.25 1-5; King Pointer, 4.25 2-5; Imprint, 4.25 2-5; Machine Gun, 4.25 2-5; Logan Chief, 4.25 4-5; Daphne De Oro, 4.25 4-5; Dilworth; 4.26; Grandlight, 4.26; Kohara, 4.25 4-s*; Gold Jacket, 4.24 2-5; Wrackler, 4.28 4-5. The nominations represent the full strength of the Dominion’s racing material at present, and though several horses, including Omaha, 4.24 2-5; Neeoro, 4.2 t 4-5; Pluto, 4.24 4-5; Cardinal Logan, 4.27 3-5; and The Abbey, 4.27, were eligible, their presence in the list would not add interest to the race. The nomination of Ahuriri, 4.20 3-5, comes as something of a surprise, for the Cathedral Chimes horse has been doing a season at the stud and as he is 11 year? old Bryce will have a hard job to get him back to the form that enabled him to twice win the race. Bryce bps a second string in Grandlight, who has 4.26 against his name, but is handicapped to do some six or seven seconds slower than this time. At one time Padlock was reported as having been retired because of unsoundness, but evidently his. condition now quite satisfies his connections.
