FLIGHT TO AUSTRALIA
KINGSFORD SMITH’S PLANS. COMMENCEMENT NEXT MONTH. Cabled advice that Willg-Cpmiriander Kingsford Smith will take off fropi Heston aerodrome, near London, on October 2, instead of from Ora in well, as was originally planned, on his flight to Australia, has been received by the Vacuum Oil Company Proprietary, Ll>V* iled. Instead of a Gipsy Aloth lie will use an Avian single-seater aeroplane, lilted with a Hermes engine. The ma* chine has been christened the Southern Cross Junior. A number of interesting photographs, showing the airman and his new machine, will be carried by Kingsford Smith on his flight to Australia. His itinerary i» Australia will include Darwin, Hot Springs, Broken Hill and Sydney. Although lie has never spoken publicly concerning breaking Mr. Bert. Hinkler’s record Kingsford Smith has on many occasions referred to the possibility of reducing the best time yet made between England and Australia by at least three days.
