As a two-year-old in 1924 King’s Speech won both juvenile races at the Takapuna spring meeting, ran second to Mimetic in the Great Northern Foal Stakes and second to Runnymede in the Royal Stakes. The following season he was second to King Lu In the Great Northern Guineas and did not race after that until last week. On account of his good breeding, King’s Speech may do well at the stud. VII his Avondale showing, Sir Kay (Lord Quex —Espiner) will win in good company. His only start was in the Champion Hack Plate, and in that race, after getting his tongue over the bit, he ran fourth.

It is reported from South that the brilliant sprinter Meadow Lark is shortly to go to Australia. The Songbird—Unawed gelding has been working well on the tracks and, as he conies to ham. very quickly, the projected trek may not be very far off.

Awapuni is Popular. More and more horses' are going to Awapuni to be trained, and the Palmerston North track must now lay claim to being one of the busiest in the Dominion. The latest arival is the Masterton mentor W. Hawthorrte, who has Mr. W. R. Kemball’s horses, and team at present consists of Courageous, Shortly, Hymgreat and several youngsters. The chief reason for the popularity of Awapuni is that it is centrally situated and, as well, the track has beem considerably improved during the past few years.
