ATHLETIC SECTION DECIDED. SPORTS MEETING AT HAWERA. .1 There were. 42 entries for the contests for the athletic qualification for the Bayly Memorial Scholarship sports conducted at the show grounds at Hawera on Wednesday. The weather was fine, but a stiff north-west breeze was a factor that the boys had to reckon with in the two goal-kicking and the punt events. The events were dispatched expeditiously, the arrangements reflecting credit on the headmaster of the Hawera primary school, Mr. J. Thomas. He was aided by an energetic band! of enthusiasts and .teachers. A sweeping victory was scored by Miles Ekdahl, Tawliiti school, Hawera, ■who obtained 270 points as against 140 points by each of the three boys who tied for second place.
