FIFTY YEARS OF PLAYING. A member of the North Auckland Regimental Band, Air. Alfred Smith, recently completed 50 years’ service as a. bandsman, and at a concert at Dargaxille Colonel J. AV. Lockic, officer commanding the North Auckland Regiment, on behalf of the band and the regiment, presented to Air. Smith a gold medal and a miniature cup. Air. Smith’s career as a bandsman began at the age of 12 years, when he joined the Aratapu drum and fife band, since when he has been a member of bands at Christchurch, Dunedin, Auckland, Aoroa, To Kopuru, and for the past 20 years of the Dargaville Town Band, now the North Auckland Reginental Band.
