BANDSMAN HONOURED
FIFTY YEARS OF PLAYING. A member of the North Auckland Regimental Band, Air. Alfred Smith, recently completed 50 years’ service as a. bandsman, and at a concert at Dargaxille Colonel J. AV. Lockic, officer commanding the North Auckland Regiment, on behalf of the band and the regiment, presented to Air. Smith a gold medal and a miniature cup. Air. Smith’s career as a bandsman began at the age of 12 years, when he joined the Aratapu drum and fife band, since when he has been a member of bands at Christchurch, Dunedin, Auckland, Aoroa, To Kopuru, and for the past 20 years of the Dargaville Town Band, now the North Auckland Reginental Band. De has played the cornet, luriloue, tenor horn and bass,
