Corroborated reports from Germany indicate a wave of militarism as the outcome qf the election?. The Berlin newspaper’Nachtausta be epitomises the feeling by asserting that heads may be shaken at Geneva, Paris and even Berlin, but when tire trumpet sounds and the drum beats in German streets hearts young and old. will beat faster. “Thank God no. pacifist fraud will ever rob Germans of their pride in armed forces,” it says. Other newspapers are devoting much space to Sunday’s activities of the “Steel Helmets,” many branches of which are in sympathy with Herr Hitler’s (supporters. Reports from Coblence, Hanover and Frankfurt refer to meetings of the Steel Helmets directed against the Versailles restriction of German armament.
A piove is being made, it is reported, to induce President Hindenberg to invite ex-Chancellor Luther to form a non-party Cabinet.
