OPUNAKE POWER SCHEM

POLL ON LOAN PROPOSALS RETICULATION NOT FAVOURED LOAN FOR A DIESEL APPROVED. Approval of the proposal to raise « loan of £3OOO for the installation of t Diesel engine to supplement the elec trie power supply was given by rate, payers of tlie Opunake Power Board’s district at the poll yesterday. A sufficient majority (three-fifths) of votes was not obtained for a larger schemt to borrow £7OOO to extend- the reticulation of the district. The Diesel engine is required because the Power Board is faced with a shortage of power unless some auxiliary sup ply is available, and an assured supply for the dry months is not available from other sources. The engine can be installed by the middle of January ready for use in the dry season. Details of the voting at the different centres are:—
