REUNION of OFFICERS. LARGE NEW PLYMOUTH MEETING. The annual reunion,'smoke concert and dance of the Taranaki branch, of the Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association was held in St. Mary’s nail, New Plymouth, last pight. A pleasing feature was the presence of women members of the service. Mr. C. W. McGiven, chairman of the branch, presided. The tables were tastefully decorated under the supervision of Mrs. L. H. Honeyfield. Practically every seat was occupied, and the evening passed most enjoyably. After the speeches the floor was cleared for a dance, the music for the first and last dapces being played by the P. arid T. Social Chib orchestra, and . for tfie. .rest by R. George’s Orchestra. Messrs. W. Jones and M. Fieldea were masters of ceremony. The chairman, on behalf of the branch, extended a welcome to the Mayor and Mayoress (Mr. and Mrs. H. V. S. Griffiths), Mr- L, M, Moss, president of the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce, officers from other towns, and ex-officers. Among the apologies fpr absence, sriid tlm chairman, werb those from the secretary tq the department (Mr. G. McNamara) and and Mr. S. H. Brown (president) and M. - . J. H. McKenzie (secretary), of the P. and T. Officers’ Association. “The Post and Telegraph Department” was proposed by the Mayor. He saifl one had only to look-into the records of the department to be impressed by the way it had woven itself into the public and private life of the community. One could only feel admiration for the departpient and its officers who performed such many-sided services. He paid a tribute to the late Sir Joseph Ward -for his services as Postmaster? General. Mr. J. L. "Walton, district accountant, replied. Mr. Moss, president of the Taranak; Chamber of Commerce, proposed the “P. and T. Officers’ Association,” which was replied to by Mr. C, F. A. Waters, delegate to the Dominion council, Other toasts honoured were:—-“Our Visitors” (Mr. L. Fieldes, Mr. S. H. Brown, chairman of the local Public Service Association, and Mr. Kyle, supervisor at Eltham)-; “The Ladies” (Mr. N. Mclntyre—Miss A. Thompson); <( TJie Artists” (Mr. C. E. Sole—Mr. L. Higginson); “The Press (Mr. J. Harris); ”The Chairman” (Mr. Moss). Musical items were given by the Misses Crawshaw (pianoforte duet), Mrs. C. Clarke (gong)), Mr. L. Higginson (song), Miss E. Chainey (song), Madame Vita Cornwall (spng), Mr. j. Quip (song), Mrs. Allen arid, Mr. JL George (violin solo, accompanied by the Spanish guitar). Accompaniments were played by Miss M. Crawshaw and Madame Cornwall.
