EGG-LAYING COMPETITION

TARANAKI COMPETITIONS. TWENTY-THIRD WEEK’S RESULTS. Following are the results of the third Taranaki egg-laying competition up to the week ending September 10: — WHITE LEGHORNS.

HAWERA MAIN SCHOOL BAND. -COMMITTEE MEETS PARENTS. The Hawera Main School Band Committee met the parents of boys to comprise the band on Wednesday evening, Air. A. Thomas presiding. ■ The 'necessity of parental supervision of home practices was emphasised, and Mr. H. C. A. Fox spoke briefly on the value of the band as a musical education for the boys. The parents undertook to co-operate with the committee, and a vote of thanks was accorded Air. Fox for his work in organising the band. The instruments will be distributed to-day and lessons will commence immediately. It is hoped that in three months the band will be able to give a demonstration to the parents. PERSONAL ITEMS. Air. J. 11. Salmon, S.AI., who was to have presided over sittings of the Alagistrate’s Court at Waverley and Patea yesterday, was called suddenly to Rotorua owing to the illness of his son. GENERAL ITEMS. Because he slaughtered sheep for human consumption in an unsanitary place John Harley was convicted and fined £3 and costs 'los in the Waverley Police Court yesterday. Ho was also convicted and’ ordered to pay costs 10s on a charge of slaughtering sheep for human consumption in an unregistered slaughterhouse. A local Alaori had invented a liquid manure distributor and wanted to be allowed to give a demonstration at one the'Tield days' at the Waimate West demonstration farm, stated the chairman (Air. J. Al. Smith) at yesterday’s meeting of the committee. Permission to hold a demonstration on the farm was given. The twentieth annual spring flower show of the Manaia Presbyterian Church will be held at’ the Alanaia Town Hall on Wednesday next. Schedules may be obtained from the secretary, Air. T. A. Bridge.
