DESCENDANTS OF VIKINGS
SKIPPER AND HIS WIFE. GUTTER CRUISES IN PACIFIC, (By Wire—Special to News.) Auckland, August 30. Since ancient times Scandinavian peoples have roamed the waters of the earth in fragile craft, and the presence of an eight-ton cutter in the Pacific, manned by a Norwegian and his wife, is an indication that the spirit of the ViVkings is not dead. The little vessel is named Teddy, and already has been cruising for two years. ' Since leaving Norway there has been an addition to the crew, a son having been bom to the adventurous pair. “I met Mr. aqd Mrs. Thams at Tahiti,” said Captain Salvesen, of the Penybryn, “and was informed by them that they were not out to break records. ‘We are going round the world,’ Mr. 'Phams told me, ‘and we expect to be in New Zealand for Christmas.’”'
“I think he has been a seafaring man,” suggested the captain, with a smile, ‘but I understand he knows nothing of navigation, except what he has taught himself. They brought their little craft through the Panama Canal and then on to Tahiti.”
