Canterbury wotbail match the Seiwyn County Council set a speed trap on the Main South Road at Dilhsandel, and 187 motorists were timed as having speeded. The first prosecution was taken before Mr. H. A. Young, S.M., at Leeston today, The magistrate dismissed the case on the ground that the method followed in operating the trap was unreliable for the recording of speed and that there was no evidence that the stop watches used had been checked. Two other cases were withdrawn. Tho trap was over a distance of chains, in which were/ various intersections and three notices, to warning traffic to go slow and one giving warning.of danger. There was another notice notifying a speed limit of 12 miles per 1 hour through the township. was alleged in the case heard toda|; that tho defendant drove over the distance at a speed .exceeding 50 mile-s an ; hour. ■ ii;’ 1 , : i
