PORT ADELAIDE TROUBLE
CARTERS THREATEN TO STRIKE. DISTURBANCES ON WATERFRONT. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Adelaide, Aug. 29. There were more disturbances at the Port Adelaide waterfront to-day. A crowd of unemployed was charged by the- police with batons. The volunteer workers are closety guarded. The South Australian branch of the Carters’ and Drivers’ Union has decided to call a general strike, excluding milkcart drivers. The trouble has reference to the waterside dispute. The Premier, Mr. Hill, stated that if negotiations were not re-opened between the shipowners and the watersiders the ■ Government would take action to settle the dispute regarding volunteer labour.
