The judges at the Hawera competitions, Messrs W. D. Dixon and J. W.Bailey and Miss Madeline Vyner, together with the committee controlling the festival, and Mrs. Bailey, were entertained by the Hawera Rotary Club , yesterday. Moi‘ecraft was found on Saturday morning in a shed on his farm property with the left side of his face practically blown away by- the discharge of a shotgun which was found between his knees. He was taken to the Hawera Hospital, dying shortly after admission.

OPERA HOUSE TALKIES. MATINEE TO-DAY 2 P.M. An excellent variety talkie programme will be presented at the Hawera Opera House matinee to-day (Saturday), commencing at 2 p.m. A Metrotone News and screen novelty song will open the . programme, then the children’s favourite, “Mickey the Mouse” will be seen and heard in his latest feature, ‘‘Mickey Fiddlin' Round.” This latest offering is-one of the most fantastic of the series... The main part of the programme will be provided by Paramount's “Slightly Scarlet,” starring Clive Brook and Evelyn Brent; “Slightfly Scarlet”- abounds in action. -It is one of the new type talking motion pictures, a fast-moving plot depending on action for its climaxes, enhanced and vivified by smart dialogue. “Slightly Scarlet” brings Miss Brent and Brook together in Paris. Each admires the other secretly but they cannot arrange a meeting. Miss Brent is a member of ah international band of jewel thieves, held to crime against her will by the sophisticated menace character, Paul Lukas. Brock is apparently a suave English gentleman. Miss Brent .is assigned the task of robbing Eugene Pallett’e, a newly-richp of a valuable necklace. She takes a house in Nice, next door to the Palle.tte family. Then she discovers that Brook has taken the -house on the other side of the Pallettes. At last they meet and fall in of the strangest plot twists ever seen love.'
