ORAPAIi HAS SHOWN GOOD GXIRM

One.-of the best' bred gallopers racing on the flat at New Plymouth tomorrow is a maiden. The three-year-old Orapai is the juvenile ,in question, but. it is ■ certain that Mrs. W.- D., Graham’s rep-: resentative will not be long in the maiden class. Orapai opened his- racing career at Wanganui lapt September, and. in his race there and in . the. Avondale Stakes , he showed f that he possessed an appreciable amount of toe. On the second day of the Avondale meeting he gave a pound to Royal Ruler and ran the Chief Ruler gelding ’to three-quarters of a length. ‘ In his next start Royal Ruler won the Welcome Stakes from Chief Link and a good field. Again at Takapuna Orapai was very unlucky and he gave 81bs. to Tremetus and ran him to a neck. Orapai was training off when he raced at New Plymouth last Christmas, but Belle Star and Green Linnet, wild led' him home, were two good ones, and he was not disgraced by that performance, / Since his spell Orapai' has’ furnished ■. :jniQ..;. ; a: ..liijQ . vhree-year-old. and it is. Bred in the purple, Orapai is by Thespian, - who beat Gloaming over a mile at Ellerslie and ran New Zealand ..record..'...time.... .Thespian is by Absurd from Letas an Australian-bred mare by Ayr' Laddie-Leading -Lady .by Grafton, and ’traces back to Musket through ■Trenton. Under -those circumstances it. will be surprising if he does hot take a hand in the finish, and a failure here would cause hig stock to slump considerably.
